Dricus du Plessis Cheekily Mocks Drake
Dricus du Plessis has once again taken the opportunity to mock rapper Drake after the artist lost a substantial bet on Israel Adesanya at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 305 on Saturday, 17 August.
Drake – who wagered $450 000 on Adesanya reclaiming the middleweight title – saw his hopes dashed when du Plessis secured a fourth-round submission victory in Perth, Australia. The 30-year-old South African fighter celebrated by thanking Drake sarcastically via X, formerly known as Twitter, the following day.
This isn’t the first time the 37-year-old hip-hop star has been on the losing side when betting against du Plessis. Earlier this year, he lost a massive $700 000 bet on a bout between du Plessis and Sean Strickland. Despite his evident support for Adesanya, Drake’s bets have often backfired, leading to speculations of a “curse” linked to his gambling.
Drake has a history of high-stakes sports bets, often with mixed results. Although he has had some successes, like winning $1.3 million on a previous Adesanya fight, his losses have been significant.
Du Plessis, meanwhile, continues to build his reputation in the UFC, while enjoying the added bonus of proving Drake wrong, time and time again.
